The Way of St Francis from Florence to La Verna is a walk of about a hundred kilometres, divided into six stages, which starts from the Basilica of Santa Croce and reaches the sanctuary where St Francis received the stigmata. Tòsina lies on the second stage, from Pontassieve to Consuma, and along the ancient Via dei Monasteri.
On this very stage lodging is notoriously scarce: the guesthouse offers pilgrims and wayfarers a welcoming place to rest exactly where it is needed, between the climb from Pontassieve and the mountains.
The pilgrims' room, pay what you wish
For those walking the Way of St Francis and the Via dei Monasteri, the Pilgrims' Castle Room welcomes individual wayfarers on a pay-what-you-wish basis, with its bunk beds arranged into a little "castle". Dinner for groups can be arranged on request. It is our way of keeping alive the ancient tradition of monastic hospitality.
The Madonna dei Fossi and the Casentino Mule Track
Nearby you will find places dear to popular devotion, such as the evocative sanctuary of the Madonna dei Fossi, and stretches of the ancient Casentino Mule Track, the cobbled way that for centuries linked Florence to the Casentino and which today the Ecomuseum of the Florentine Mountains is helping to rediscover.
